Our name
Esdac means: Spiritual Exercises for Apostolic Discernment in Common. An abbreviation of the French Exercices Spirituels pour un Discernement Apostolique en Commun, it quickly became known as ‘Esdac’.

Our heritage
We are the heirs of the team who have been developing and promoting ISECP (Ignatian Spiritual Exercises for the Corporate Person) in North America since 1977. Responding creatively to the needs they saw, they enriched the practice of the Spiritual Exercises of St Ignatius (founder of the Society of Jesus – the Jesuits) by considering groups in the same way as they did individuals, listening to the movements of the Spirit and called to make decisions in common.
An Association
Esdac is a Christian, Ignatian and international association at the service of communion and group discernment. It developed in Belgium and other countries from 1995.
Our purpose
The gift of communion, which is Esdac’s raison d’être, finds its source in the Trinity whose Spirit is at work in the world. We want to be at the service of this gift.
Our Inspiration
Esdac draws its inspiration from the tradition of the Spiritual Exercises of St Ignatius of Loyola and draws on developments from the human sciences and group dynamics.
Our Service
Esdac is at the service of any group (communities, couples, religious families, work groups, parishes…) looking for communion, reconciliation amongst its members, finding or renewing its identity, vocation and mission in the world, listening to and collaborating with the action of the Spirit of God. We are careful to adapt to each specific situation.
Our Members
The members of Esdac are volunteers, animating and facilitating an experience of life. In order to be more attentive to the voice of the Spirit, there are usually at least two people facilitating. In order to be credible witnesses of a visible communion and complementarity, they are men and women who bring a diversity of experience, and are from different countries of origin, states of life, temperament, and talents. They help the group recognise and welcome the Spirit at work in their midst, concerned that each person speaks and is heard by the others.
Through personal prayer and spiritual conversation, they help groups make decisions and choose appropriate ways to implement them.
